When creating the scenery of a witch’s cottage, me and members of my group agreed on similar sounds and images that would show up. Witches make potions and whistle as well as live in an area full of nature. With that in mind we created foley noises through leaves, branches, bird sounds, door sounds, paper and other items. We also conducted sounds to portray a less obvious correlation Which is where my creativity had to shine. Many objects can sound so similar to completely different things. For example, a door stopper was used to make frog sounds and scratching paper in circles to make stirring the pot sounds. We also used mouth sounds from Eva that represented the bubbles within the pot as the potion was being made. The leaves crunching and footsteps were layered to represent the witch walking through leaves. Lots of layering was used in “making the potion” and overall, I did not have a challenging time learning and using items to create the sounds of a scene. I learned that anything can used for foley sounds as long as you use it with a purpose for a scene in particular. I had lots of fun creating these sounds and would definitely want to do it again!
