Five Master Edits

1. Road Runner- Contrast - For this master shot, my partner focused on using diegetic and nondiegetic sounds focusing on one song. In order to create contrast, Felipe makes the initial running clip to have a non diegetic background song and he also contains tracking or lateral movement following subjects and camera while steadily being parallel to the subjects. In this he shows a chase scene or simply a more intense scene, however, when cross cutting to the other location it is much more calm and is heard by the subject allowing it to be diegetic. The contrast is that while one subject is intensely running with the music making up the scene, the other subject is simply driving a car with the song having little to purpose in the scene as it is only background music.

2. Boiling Hot- Symbolism - For this master shot my partner uses the setting of the shower and the use of the water to eventually symbolize the hot water which cuts to the sun in a different setting. We and the subject can hear and see the water running causing there to be synchronous sound being used. As the hot water hits the subject, a sound effect is used to overlay the original sound and portray the screaming aspect of the subject. A static shot is used as the subject walks into the shower to show the full and realistic action of simply walking into a shower. There is a jump cut to emphasize the different location to where it appears to be a hotter area.

3. Creeping around- Leitmotif - For this master shot I decided to bring a concept of horror into it. As Leitmotif is a short, recurring musical phrase associated with a particular subject or location, I used a non-diegetic musical background sound to incorporate suspense and foreshadow that something bad will occur. I wanted the sound to be significant like the Jaws theme sound, so I chose a fast paced yet eerie soundtrack to attempt to make a significant background song. I used a jump cut between different shots of the same subject in slightly different positions or angles. This was done to disorient the viewer intentionally. I focused on using little to no light, low-key lighting- to cause this scary and mysterious setting and when editing I made sure to add vignetting to additionally bring the darkness concept. I added slight a slight zoom in, in each clip using keyframes to bring focus to the center where the subject is located.

4. Road trip- Parallelism - For this master shot the use of ambient sound is mostly used to show the environment and the surrounding sounds that is found in a city or even simply at a gas station. An establishing shot is used to show that the location is Buc-ee's and it allows for the viewers to gain context of the scenery. A medium shot is used for the subject so that we can see a bit of the surrounding environment as well as the actions the subject is performing. As he waits for the gas tank to fill up, there is a jump cut into the future to show parallelism from one location to another while still performing the same task.

5. Unanswered love- Simultaneity - For this master shot I edited multiple scenes to create a connection between these different clips by cutting back and forth to events occurring at the same time. In this shot I decided to use a girl in which she is dressed up and constantly checking her phone to see if someone would come to the door. This cuts to a boy approaching a front door creating a narrative that the boy is going to the house of the girl and meeting her. The sound effect of a ring doorbell is used as it is not originally heard. When this doorbell is pressed the girl approaches the door and as she opens the door she is greeted with a package rather than her "date". The boy is also surprised as he seems to have arrived at the wrong location as he is met with a stranger. There is foley sounds of footsteps used when the boy was approaching the house and along with the ambient sounds. There is dialogue allowing for scenes to contain direct diegetic sounds to help bring flow to the cuts and create a connection.
