Script Making
In creating this scene, we aimed to build tension and suspense through careful camera work and sound design. One of our key goals was to introduce a red herring to keep the audience guessing. The man with the clipboard, the news report about missing people, and the unsettling moments like the girl noticing the red stain on her sleeve all work to create doubt about whether the girl is involved in the disappearances. By making the audience focus on these clues, we kept them uncertain of the true nature of the story, only to later reveal that the man wasn’t a threat, but rather part of a group monitoring her condition. We also wanted to keep the dialogue to a minimum to add to the mystery of the characters. This red herring helped maintain mystery and made the eventual reveal more impactful.
SCRIPT:
INT. DINER - DAY
The camera cuts to a TV in the diner showing a news report about three missing people. The sound of the anchor’s voice is muffled, and images of the missing individuals are displayed.
The girl glances at the TV, her face tense, then quickly looks away, shifting uncomfortably in her seat.
INT. DINER - BOOTH
The girl nervously takes out her pills. Her friend is sitting across from her.
WOMAN
(Mid conversation) ...I don't know I really cant think that way.. I have kids at home.
Friend
I'm sure the mayor is just trying to keep us in our homes you're fine.
INT. DINER - BOOTH
Stalker like camera recording the woman. The woman notices a man holding a camera aimed directly at their booth.
She notices the man in the background. She glances nervously at him while her friend continues eating, unaware of the tension.
EXT. DINER - STREET
The girl exits the diner and glances over her shoulder, noticing the man following her at a distance. He’s holding a clipboard.
Her paranoia builds, and she speeds up her walk, refusing to confront him.
Another POV camera shot of her leaving the parking lot.
INT. GIRL'S HOME - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
The woman is preparing dinner for her children.
WOMAN
(calling out)John, Katie, food is ready!
The house is eerily quiet. She stands still for a moment, confused.
Suddenly, her eyes widen in horror as a flash of her blood hands and arms appear in front of her vision as she turns off the sink, making her gasp and stagger backward.
The vision fades, and she’s left in a panic, breathing heavily. She screams.
She looks around frantically, terrified, but nothing seems out of place. Her breathing intensifies as she backs away slowly.
EXT. GIRL’S HOME - FRONT DOOR - NIGHT
Cut to a high-angle shot of the man standing outside her door, clipboard in hand. As he is about to knock, he hears the frantic scream and drops his clipboard.
The camera zooms in on the clipboard, showing detailed notes:
- The title being Police Report
- Description of her outfit.
- Notes on her “disorder causing memory loss and violent tendencies.”
- A list of missing persons with some names crossed out.
A red arrow is drawn next to her name, marked with an ominous "?"
The man remains still completely unaware that she is watching him from inside.
