Filming Day 1
Today was our first day of filming, and it came with a lot of challenges but also some really exciting moments. We filmed entirely at Wendy’s and in the parking lot, focusing on dialogue-heavy scenes and setting up the mystery behind the story. One of the biggest struggles was working with Eliran—he and I had a lot of discussions about whether we had enough footage or if we needed more takes of certain expressions or lines. I wanted to make sure every detail was captured, but he felt that some shots were already strong enough. This led to some back-and-forth, but in the end, we compromised by filming additional close-ups and reaction shots to have more options in editing.
One of the most interesting parts of today’s filming was experimenting with camera movement. Since we’re setting up a big red herring—where the audience thinks this is a stalker film when it’s actually something completely different—we wanted to use a lot of POV shots from the perspective of the mystery person. We did this with a shaky handheld camera to make it feel eerie and unsettling, especially in the parking lot scenes. As my character left Wendy’s and walked to her car, we filmed from this unseen figure’s perspective, making it seem like she was being watched. This added an extra layer of suspense that I think will work really well once everything is put together.
We also spent a lot of time working with zoom-ins and adjusting the focus. Since this is a psychological thriller, subtle details matter a lot in making the audience feel the tension. There were a few shots where we zoomed in on facial expressions, but getting the focus just right while moving the camera took some trial and error. After a few attempts, we finally got it to look smooth, which was really satisfying.
Even though today was mostly focused on set-up rather than the big reveals, I think we did a great job establishing the eerie atmosphere. The disagreements over how much to film reminded me that filmmaking is a collaborative process, sometimes I need to step back and trust that we already have enough footage. Tomorrow is going to be even more intense since we’re filming the major reveal scene at my house, so I know I’ll need to be fully prepared for that.
